Boyfriend stepped away to get a cup of beer and Danielle started to sing the next song. When I recognized it, my eyes started to brim with tears. Before the memory even surfaced my body already triggered the emotion. It’s amazing how the mind and body works in remembering smell, touch, sight, and sound. Compartmentalizing every sense to a memory. I never knew I put this song in a box with my grandfather and left it underneath the mask of cobwebs in the basement of my mind.
There I was staring up at the ceiling trying not to blink. Quickly to think of something else, because I don’t know why or how to explain the tears. I was having a good day after all.
